Camera Flash Cats Eyes

Robert Allen Zimmerman, better known as Bob Dylan, (Duluth, May 24, 1941) is a singer and American composer.
Born in Minnesota, the grandson of Russian-Jewish immigrants, the ten-year-old Dylan and wrote his first poems as a teenager, he learned piano and guitar. He began singing in rock bands, imitating Little Richard and Buddy Holly, but when he went to the University of Minneapolis in 1959, turned to folk music, impressed with the musical work of the legendary Woody Guthrie folk singer, who was visiting in New York in 1961.

Career
An Early Protests

Dylan has released over 45 albums since 1962, when she released her first album, "Bob Dylan", dedicated to traditional folk. His second album "The Freewhellin 'Bob Dylan" (1963), containing only songs of his own, dedicated musician with the hit "Blowin' In The Wind", which became an anthem of the civil rights movement. Besides this, songs like " The rain-hards to gonna-fall "," Masters Of War ", among others, have become classic songs as" protest ", while Dylan later refused the label of "protest singer". These songs, which he composed among others, addressed social and political themes in a poetic language, made him a phenomenon among young folk artists of the time, leading him to stardom folk, especially after his participation at the Newport Folk Festival 1963, where was promoted by the "queen" of the folk era, singer Joan Baez. The success of the album "The Times They Are-A-Changing" (1964) only solidified this position.

Transition

But soon Dylan changed his artistic direction, away from the movement folk and protest songs, turning to more personal, introspective, linked to a very particular vision of the world. The socio-political issues of his day: racism, the Cold War, Vietnam War, social injustice, give space to the theme of heartbreak, lost love, wandering vagabonds, personal freedom, travel and surrealistic dream, packed by the influence of Beat poetry . This transition takes place between 1964 and 1966, when Dylan electrify his music, starts playing with a band of blues-rock as support and shock the audience folk, with their approach to rock. At the time, many unaware that Dylan had played rock and roll in adolescence and enjoyed country artists like Johnny Cash, who had been working with electric instruments since the '50s. The success of the Beatles and other British rockers in the rereading of American rock also caught her attention. In contrast, critical acclaim, has broadened its audience (even being called "traitor" for fans of Dylan folk singer), becoming increasingly influential among contemporary artists (John Lennon say it) and throwing the most appreciated albums of his career with a series of classic songs from his repertoire: "Maggie's Farm," "Subterranean Homesick Blues," "Gates of Eden," "It's Alright Ma (I'm Only Bleeding) "," Mr. Tambourine Man, "" Ballad Of A Thin Man, "" Like A Roling Stone, "" Just Like a Woman ", among others, launched at its most inspired album" Bringing It All Back Home "and" Highway 61 Revisited "in 1965 and the double "Blonde on Blonde", 1966.
In May 1966, after a tumultuous tour of England due to the format of rock concerts, Dylan suffered a serious motorcycle accident that kept him out of the stage and on record until 1968. In his return, he surprised audiences and critics with the album "John Hardin Wesling", heavily influenced by country, a trend that was accentuated in the next job, "Nashville Skyline", which brought the classic "Lay Lady Lay "to the charts. By merely sporadic presentations, of which the most important was his participation in the Isl of Wight Festival in August 1969, besides its participation in the Concert for Bangladesh by George Harrison and oganizado 1971, Dylan do not return to touring in 1974.

70

What produced in the early '70s was not well received by critics, considered well below his best moments . Only a few songs stand out: "If Not For You" (1970), "Knockin 'on Heaven's Door" (1973), "Forever Young" (1974). But back to the tour, accompanied by The Band returns to success and the evidence, especially by acclaimed double live "Before the Flood" (1974). Career in the retaking of the more active, produces Dylan "Blood On Tracks" (1975) and "Desire" (1976), his best albums in the '70s, with critical acclaim. Of the latter, the song "Hurricane," based on the story of Rubin Carter, a black boxer wrongly imprisoned, was a spectacular success, while the tour Roling Thunder Revue (75/76) it was acclaimed by critics and audiences. Desire is also the music of Sara (dedicated to his wife) and Romance in Durango, this last was poured into Romance in the Desert by Brazilian singer Fagner to the disk of the same name.

Conversion

After her divorce in 1977, his wife Sara Lownds, with whom he was married since 1965, Dylan lived a great personal crisis, which was reflected in your artwork. After a world tour in 1978, partly recorded in the double live "At Budokan" (recorded in Japan), he turned to gospel music after converting to Christianity and to join a church. It was the most controversial period of his career and controversial, mainly because Dylan move away from his classical repertoire and invest in Christian-themed songs. In this new phase, surprendeu their old fans and musicians approached the Christian segment, as Larry Norman, Keith Green and Chuc Girard, on whose album "So You Want to Go Back to Egypt" comes to share a record with his harmonica.
More importantly, motivated by his new spirituality, Dylan recorded three albums: "Slow Train Coming" (1979) considered the most inspired of the three, gave Dylan a Grammy for Best Male Vocal for the song "Gotta Serve Somebody" . The second album, "Saved" (1980), had a less enthusiastic reception, although in the opinion of Kurt Loder of Rolling Stone this album was better than the first. "Shot of Love" (1981) closed the phase of Dylan's Christian.
Despite the intolerance of criticism at the time of its launch in 2003, the content of the songs on "Gotta Serve Somebody" was debugged, revisited and redeemed by names like Shirley Caesar, Helen Baylor, Chicago Mass Choir and other representatives of african music America, in "The Gospel Songs of Bob Dylan," a CD that has unfolded in Grammy nomination and documentary (2006) on this phase. The International Herald Tribune stated that the interpretation african-american took Dylan's song to another level.
80 Years

With "Infidels" in 1983, Dylan moves away from the Christian faith, turns unexpectedly to their Jewish roots and seems to regain some balance of art. Well received by critics, is considered his best album since Desire. The live performances, in which returns to play their classic songs, marking a reconciliation with his audience. In 1985 participates in special We are the world with 40 other great names in American music, including Michael Jackson, Tina Turner, Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder - the campaign against hunger in Africa.
Dylan continues to write regularly, seeking a sound "made 80 years" while trying to preserve its style. "Down In The Grovy" album from 1988, went unnoticed, contains several covers, but is tantamount to a declaration of principles, with songs by folk-rock, gospel, rock, marking it the preferred artistic tastes of the artist. After a tour with legendary band Grateful Dead California, he released the album "Oh Mercy" (1989), praised the quality of songs and unexpected return to the charts as the supergroup Traveling Wilburys, made friends with George Harrison, Tom Petty, and Jef Lynne and Roy Orbison.

90 Years

In early 1990, Bob Dylan seems to give a "stop" career. To celebrate and take stock of his 30 year career, he returned to record traditional folk, acoustic, without caring about the little commercial appeal of this genre today. In 1992 it held a tribute concert in style, with the participation of several names in rock, country and soul singing his songs: Eric Clapton, Stevie Wonder, Neil Young, Willie Nelson Eddieedder Lou Reed among others. After the acoustic
produced for MTV in 1994, Dylan would not return with a CD of new material in 1997 (year that several other famous active again successfully, including the Bee Gees. The album "Time Out Of Mind" won several Grammy awards and was considered by many a new artistic resurrection, confirmed by the quality of "Love and Theft" (2001). That same year Rolling Stone magazine published a list of the 500 best songs of the history and first became Like a Rolling Stone, Bob Dylan. Currently enrolls a new interest in life and work of Dylan, with the official launch of several bootleg recordings, and the release of the documentary "No Direction Home, Martin Scorsese, who busted the early years of his career (1961-1966 ) and, more recently, "Modern Times, "his new album released in 2006, with which, for the fourth time in his career, Dylan won the leadership ranks of the most sold in the United States, selling 192,000 copies its first week. The last time Dylan had attained leadership in United States, was with the album "Desire", 1976, which was five weeks atop the charts.
